Trolls are the other major victim of goblinization, first appearing on Goblinization Day, April 30th, 2021. Unlike Orcs, who more or less resemble humans in size and shape, Trolls are monstrous mutations, standing roughly 9 feet tall on average, and sporting large, curving horns and tusks, which may or may not be symmetrical. Trollish skin is covered in calcified dermal deposits, variously resembling warts, spines, or armor plating. These deposits make trolls incredibly resistant to physical trauma and an almost regenerative nervous system allows them to heal quickly and, in rare cases, regain lost limbs. Trolls are the rarest of all metahumnity, accounting for about 0.5% of the world population. Trollish brains are smaller and weaker than most humans, making them child-like or slow in the estimation of other humans and metahumans. Trolls are also more susceptible to mental trauma resulting in psychotic breaks, sociopathy and general problems with anger. The typical troll lives to 100 or so, though most fail to live long in the harsh careers open to them.
Trollish variants around the world include the Mediterranean Cyclops, the Irish Formori, the Nordic Giant and the exceedingly rare Minotaur.
If Orcs are the victims of intense racism and punitive legislation, Trolls lack the organization or in some cases the mental capacity to realize how oppressed they are. Being so exceedingly rare, Trolls are barely civilized hangers on, exploited by other metahumans for their intense strength or their violent tendencies, Trolls get jobs where they can, usually in the labor or security markets though even there they experience an extreme degree of racism. Some trolls are seen as allies in the Orkish struggle for equal recognition or footing but many more Orcs are insulted to be compared to the outsized brutes, and resent the fact that both appeared in the world on Goblinization Day. Many Trolls, facing bleak opportunities in the metroplexes, have fled to the countryside, where they live in small collectives, similar to Paleolithic clans and vigiliantly guard their resources.
