The SSS Qálqaliɫ is a Salish-Shidhe cargo ship that delivers goods around the Northern Pacific Rim. It was mentioned by Grough in his correspondance with Takahashi as a ship that makes deliveries on BridgeCorp’s behalf.
Its current schedule has it departing Tokyo earlier this year and stopping in Juneau and Vancouver along the way. It is scheduled to stop at Everett Harbor on the evening of February 20th around 7pm, but a last minute stop, at 5pm was added.
This stop is in the tiny dock in Langley, about 5 miles from Everett across the sound on Whidbey Island. Langley’s dock is largely decommissioned and usually handles much smaller ships on the off chance one stops.
The SSS Qálqaliɫ has, for the majority of its life, been a ship dedicated to delivering antique furniture and, as a result, has stabilizing gyroscopes built into the hull. This keeps most shipping containers level even in the worst storms. Such technology is considered decadent and outdated as newer furniture construction materials are more resistant to wear accrued by shifting in their containers, and newer shipping containers are often internally gyrostatic.
